PCOS Weight Loss
PCOS diet plan for weight loss, using Indian meal patterns
Weight loss with PCOS is harder because insulin resistance works against you — not because you lack willpower. This plan keeps your regular Indian thali intact and changes the structure of it, so fat loss happens without living on salads.
This is a general sample plan, not medical advice. Your calories, protein target and portions depend on your weight, insulin and thyroid reports, and your work schedule.

Six rules that drive PCOS fat loss
Build the Indian plate: ½ sabzi, ¼ protein, ¼ carb
Same thali, different proportions. Fill half with vegetables, a quarter with dal/paneer/egg/chicken, and a quarter with roti or rice. No weighing scale needed.
Protein 1.2–1.6 g per kg body weight
This is the single biggest lever for PCOS fat loss. It protects muscle in a deficit, curbs evening cravings and keeps insulin steady.
Eat fibre first, carbs last
Salad or sabzi before roti/rice lowers the glucose spike from the same meal — a free win with zero food changes.
A gentle deficit, not starvation
300–500 calories below maintenance. Crash dieting spikes cortisol, worsens irregular periods and causes the rebound weight gain most PCOS women know too well.
Walk after meals, lift twice a week
A 10-minute post-dinner walk plus two strength sessions improves insulin sensitivity more than an extra hour of cardio.
Sleep 7+ hours and protect it
Under-sleeping raises hunger hormones and blocks fat loss even on a perfect diet. For PCOS, sleep is a fat-loss tool, not a luxury.

Five mistakes that stall PCOS weight loss
- Cutting rice and roti completely, then binging on the weekend
- Doing an hour of cardio daily with no strength training
- Skipping breakfast and eating the heaviest meal at 10 pm
- Chasing detox teas and supplements instead of fixing protein and sleep
- Changing the plan every two weeks because the scale didn't move fast enough
Common questions
How much weight can I lose with a PCOS diet plan?
Most women following a structured PCOS plan lose 0.5–1 kg a week once insulin resistance starts improving. Energy, bloating and cravings usually improve within 3–4 weeks, before the scale moves much.
Do I have to give up rice and roti to lose weight with PCOS?
No. Rice and roti stay — we control the portion and always pair them with protein, vegetables and curd so blood sugar rises slowly. Cutting carbs entirely is exactly why most PCOS diets fail by week three.
Is a vegetarian PCOS diet plan enough for weight loss?
Yes, provided protein is deliberate: dal, rajma, chana, paneer, tofu, curd, milk and soya. Vegetarian plans fail only when protein is accidental rather than planned into every meal.
How many calories should I eat for PCOS weight loss?
Typically a modest 300–500 calorie deficit with 1.2–1.6 g protein per kg body weight. Aggressive deficits raise cortisol and stall periods — the opposite of what PCOS needs.
